"You will see men and women the way that you are supposed to see them."

Conversion therapy aims to ‘cure’ homosexuality, to convert homosexuals to heterosexuality. It is a practice that scientific research has deemed not only ineffective, but harmful, and yet patients can be referred to such treatment by the NHS. In 2014 various health organization including NHS England and the Royal College of Psychiatrists signed a Memorandum of Understanding which condemned the therapy as “unethical.” However this document is not legally binding and represents a reluctance by the government to genuinely address the issue. We ask people to sign the petition, the link to which can be found below and in the video, to get this issue taken to parliament so that this dangerously harmful form of therapy can at last be criminalised.

Further Statistics:

Researched published by Stonewall found that one in ten health and social care staff have witnessed colleagues express the belief that sexual orientation can be ‘cured’, which rises to 1 in 5 among health and care staff in London.

Scientific American reported on this: "One in 25 British psychiatrists and psychologists say they would be willing to help homosexual and bisexual patients try to convert to heterosexuality, even though there is no compelling scientific evidence a person can willfully become straight", and explained that 17% of those surveyed said they had tried to help reduce or suppress homosexual feelings, and 4% said they would try to help homosexual people convert to heterosexuality in the future.

A 2009 survey of over 1,300 accredited mental health professionals found that more than 200 had offered some form of conversion therapy, with 35 per cent of patients referred to them for treatment by GPs and 40 per cent treated inside an NHS practice.

Royal College of Psychiatrists, the main professional organisation of psychiatrists in Britain, issued a report stating that: "Although there are now a number of therapists and organisations in the USA and in the UK that claim that therapy can help homosexuals to become heterosexual, there is no evidence that such change is possible."

People that have gone through conversion therapy are 8.9 times more likely to be subject to suicidal thoughts and face depression at 5.9 times the rate of their peers.
